Ibérico laws and regulations.

Everything about the Ibérico laws and regulations for Iberian - Ibérico products.

Ibérico products (ham, forequarter, loin and meat) are popularly consumed both in Spain and in other countries.

In addition, the Ibérico ham is world famous and is considered a gastronomic delicacy.

Ibérico ham is one of the most commonly consumed Spanish ham types.

To guarantee the quality of Ibérico products and protect consumers, new Legislation was established in 2014 (Royal Decree 4/2014).

This legislation regulates everything surrounding the Ibérico pig, the Ibérico meat, the Ibérico ham, the Ibérico forequarter and the Ibérico loin.

In Spanish it is called “La norma de calidad para la carne, el jamón, la paleta y la cana de lomo iberico (Real Decreto 4/2014)”

This law was published in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE) of January 11, 2014.

The legislation requires, among other things, to provide all products (ham, foreleg and meat) with a color labeling system.

These color labels are determined depending on the purity of the Iberian breed (100 %, 75 % or 50%), animal feed and production methods.
